First Scan to CAD Handoff

A finished-looking mesh still needs a scale check, defined feature measurements, and a tested export before it enters design work. This section provides a measured path from verified scan data to a CAD handoff.

The verification guide begins with explicit import units, checks gross scale, defines plane and hole measurements, treats fine edges as fitted transitions, and separates observed surfaces from automatic repairs. The export guide then chooses STL, OBJ, 3MF, or another supported deliverable according to the receiving task and application.

Evidence travels with the mesh

Each handoff should identify units, coordinate system, source revision, processing settings, mesh repairs, face count, verified features, intended use, and known gaps. A round-trip import on the receiving tool catches wrong units, flipped axes, missing texture files, and unintended shell changes.

Formal dimensional inspection requires an appropriate calibrated reference chain and uncertainty evaluation. A workshop comparison can still be useful, provided it is labeled as a bench result and does not claim more than the recorded method supports.
